About
I’ve kept a vegetable garden everywhere I’ve lived as a “grown-up”, from neat container gardens in apartment driveways, to rambling plantings in my first house’s sloping backyard.
Guess I come by it honest: my maiden name is “Tiller”. Yep, that name, plus I grew up with a dad who always managed to find a sunny spot for a garden wherever we lived, and managed to grow awesome veggies for us and neighbors too. He’s always got a huge garden going, complemented with bee hives.
I’ve now ventured into raised-bed gardening….in my front yard, one mile from downtown Asheville.
I’m interested in how much food I can grow in a limited space. I’m also keen on involving our kids in the adventure of growing some of our own food. Last summer was a successful beginning….

Hey Tricia,
I met you yesterday in my front yard (well, I was the one on the porch– you met Candice in the yard). I was walking my dogs looking at all the urban gardening today and I realized I should have told you: I’m the author events coordinator for Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe and we have an author scheduled for this Thursday at 7pm: Extension Agent, Toby Bost. He has an excellent new book out called The Successful Gardener Guide, NC. It’s a free talk and Q & A. Here’s a link: http://www.malaprops.com/event/toby-bost
It was nice to meet you and your blog is great! I’m looking forward to reading more posts.

Hi Helen —
Are you in England? You can google child’s beekeeping suits and there are a couple of places in GB that sell them. I bought one of mine online here in the states, and another from my friend’s beekeeping supply store nearby. His website is: http://www.wildmountainbees.com/

Hey! Give James Magee a call if you’re looking for composting worms. http://www.findworms.com/suppliers/farm_detail/234 He’s just off Riceville Rd (about 5 mins from downtown). He sells by appt. only so call first. That’s where I got my worms and they are doing great!
Best of luck with your new spot at the TAP! That’s some good flat dirt and you’ve got good southern exposure too, right?
