About 9pm I went on our back porch to take out some compost. I heard something down in the yard and realized it was the bear tearing the hive apart again.
The bear got scared and scrambled up the birch tree next to our porch. I’ve been in the kitchen cooking and haven’t gone back out to see if he’s left yet.
Oh my poor bees. It’s 40 degrees and dropping.

I thought I would revisit your site and see how your bee keeping has gone for your first year. Well, I see you decided to learn all of the pitfalls of bee keeping in one season. If there is a bright side you now have years of experience from just one season,and there should be new swarms come spring..

Thanks for your optimism! Yep, we definitely learned alot. Most importantly, we’re going to set up an electric fence before we get another hive going in the spring. If you have any advice/suggestions on types and voltages etc, I am all ears! Happy New Years! Tricia
